Summary/Abstract: An attempt at an analysis of "Sielanka. Obrazek leśny" – a less-known work by Henryk Sienkiewicz, distinct the novelist’s mainstream output. Taking a glance at this short story, or novella, the author endeavoured to show the origins of the artistic route of the Nobel-Prize winner as well as the way he perceived the reality at the time his way of literary depiction of realities was not as yet crystallised. Associations with folk culture and the influence of classicism on the prosaist’s early works.
