Summary/Abstract: Our paper aims to demonstrate that there is a direct relationship between the use of phraseological units during the FSL (French as a second language) or FSP (French for specific purposes) classes and the proper understanding of their cultural dimension, but we have to determine the extent to which the students are more or less aware of their cultural connotations. From this point of view, during the course it is important to discuss especially about idioms and collocations above all the other units due to their cultural and intercultural relevance. Thus, teachers must specify what cultural elements they want to convey to meet the objectives of their learners, adapt them to their age and address the particular needs for their level. We try to observe whether francophony is properly highlighted in the process of teaching this type of expressions so as to serve a cultural and intercultural purpose. After clarifying these key aspects, it becomes possible to conduct an inquiry to establish the perception of Romanian student(s) on phaseology. This survey form designed on the field, as a questionnaire, was created for the students in Applied Modern Languages to find out the difficulties they encounter when learning the collocations. Such an activity could not be undertaken outside the specific theoretical framework, which is exploited and evoked whenever necessary and appropriate.
