Summary/Abstract: In the seven volumes of Aufzeichnungen, one can discover all the major themes of Elias Canetti’s works. The present article is not concerned, as other Canetti-critics who interpreted these fragments, with the utopias, the aphorisms or the essays, but with the literary species character, as founded by Theophrastus in the antiquity. The character-writing defines Canetti’s style and influenced his major works, such as Die Blendung, the dramas and the auto-biography.
