BAJRAM CURRI – SYMBOL OF BRAVERY AND SELF-SACRIFICE FOR FATHERLAND

Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the figure of Bajram Curri according to historical popular songs. These oral poetic compositions in detailed manner reflect general contribution of this patriot in a certain historical period; his continuous endeavors and fighting against foreign rulers for freedom and independence of Albania. Special dimension of this historical epic which sings about the Old man of the Mountains is also his relation with prominent ideologist of that time, Hasan Prishtina, which he loved and with whom he closely collaborated on all issues of national interest. Bajram Curri in historical popular songs is an ideal example of the warrior, implacable hero on the issue of Kosovo freedom.
