Summary/Abstract: Through its long history, mankind has gone through various stages of development. On the basis of relevant finds, it is assumed that mammoth hunters arrived to Europe some 30.000 years ago, at wich time Europe was still covered with ice, and that they started to make musical instruments out of mammoth bones, as qell as they started to dance and make clothes and ornaments. The first concrete traces of music and musical instruments on the territory of present-day Kosovo date back to the Neolithic period, which is the period from which originates a very rare wind instruments, a clay ocarina which was found at the site of Rudnik near Skenderaj in region of Drenica. In Atiquity, the territory of present-day Kosovo became the central part of the Dardanian Kingdom.Strabo and other authors from that period testify that the Dardanians devoted a great deal of time to music and that they used Wind and string instruments, which is corroborated by archeological finds from throughout Kosovo. A bronze statue of Apollo dated to the 2nd century AD was discovered at the antique site of Ulpiana in the vicinity of Pristina. His damaged hand may have held, and probably did hold, his favorite instrument.
