Summary/Abstract: This article aims at retracing the evolution of terminology and at delimiting the domain from other disciplines which it was associated with during its existence. Other aspects such us the word-term opposition or the monosemic and univocal character of terminological units will be dealt with in order to understand the sheer complexity of the most important theoretical issues in the field of terminology.
