Summary/Abstract: It is a comparative research of legends about the symbols of the water through people imagination in Corsica and in the Ukrainian Carpathes: “The spirits and the benefits of the water through people imagination in Corsica and in the Ukrainian Carpathes”. The term of “spirit” is examined according two angles: in its holy dimension and in its ritual practice. For example, we choose the Corsican legend about the lake of the Cintu and the Ukrainian Carpathian legend about the lake Nessamovety. The term of “legend” is considered according the theory of oral tradition, of LéviStrauss’s Savage Mind. The purpose of this paper is to show the syncretism and the complexity of water’s symbolism and to clarify relations between ancient and modern types of thinking.
