Some aspects of general characteristic and classification of bacterial β-lactamases

Summary/Abstract: Main structural and functional groups of bacterial β-lactamases are cited in the data review. Modern systems of classification, which was based on spectra of activity, sensitivity to inhibitors and peculiarities of molecular structure are described. The basic properties of β-lactamases are presented: substrate specificity, sensitivity to inhibitors, features of genetic determination. The special attention is given to β-lactamases of gram-negative bacteria TEM-, SHV-type and its role in the development of resistance to different β-lactams.
