Summary/Abstract: The present paper focuses on the use of the concept of leadership in Romania at present claiming that it is a "Western", possibly American, set of values, attitudes and skills imported in the Romanian situation as a proof of a democratic society and a functional market economy. The present paper explores the role of leadership today, particularly in higher education, looking at the way the American model changed values and attitudes not only in the US, but also in Romania.
