Summary/Abstract: Zsuzsanna Veroszta’s paper examines the role played by perceptions of the teaching profession in any career choice among students facing higher educational enrolment. The main goal of the study reveals the background characteristics contained in the potential base of teacher training programs; and among these factors, the study highlights the relevance of perceptions of the profession. The research proves that in addition to (self-) selection mechanisms, perception is also a relevant criterion within any teacher career choice. Research results show that perceptions of the teacher’s profession differ for specific groups of students. Yet students who decide to be a teacher do show different levels of perception, too. Based on the above, an examination of perceptions of the teaching profession could lead us to identify on one hand the supply base of the profession and, on the other, detect weak points within such a career choice.
