Similarities and differences between Mishnah and Sunna

Summary/Abstract: This paper tries to explain the notions of Sunna and Mishnah, their significance as traditiae qonstitutivae, i.e. the sources of faith, practice and law in Islam and Judaism. There is a short indication of the semantic and functional fields of these notions and their practical manifestations in the believers’ lives in view of their religious affiliation. The paper also offers their history and the different approaches to interpretation and application of these notions. Similarities and differences in understanding Tradition and Teaching in Islam and Judaism are also underscored, using comparative historical and textual-critical hermeneutical methods.
