Innovative approaches in the field of cultural heritage preservation

Summary/Abstract: For the preservation of bibliographic and museum cultural heritage, new methods of treatment without toxic substances and chemicals have been developed. The “Anoxia” method is non-toxic disinfection and disinsection through a controlled oxygen-free environment and control of invasions of biological pests without any risk to the cultural heritage, humans and the environment. The Anoxia method artificially alters the atmosphere by removing oxygen to levels below 0.5% and introducing inert gas (mainly nitrogen). At the same time, the temperature and relative humidity levels that are maintained in certain performance parameters of the method are controlled.Anoxia eliminates parasites by dehydration and suffocation. Pest mortality is 100%, regardless of their stage of development.
