The Archive of the Bulgarian literature – creation, history, state and perspectives

Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the 120 th anniversary of the adoption of the first “Legal Deposit Law” in Bulgaria in 1897 and the creation of the “Archive of Bulgarian Literature”. It is noted that the creation of the Archive began long before the adoption of the legal basis, in practice shortly after the foundation of the National Library in Sofia in 1879. The history of the Archive is traced based on the available documents. Its role in preserving the Bulgarian written heritage has been highlighted and its relationship with the current national bibliography. Attention is drawn to its current state, to the problems it faces and their causes. The necessary measures and actions for their solution have been identified, ensuring the proper functioning and development of the Archive.
