Summary/Abstract: The complete victory obtained by Basileios II against the Bulgarian Tsardom in 1018/1019 allowed the emperor to firmly re-establish the Byzantine Empire’s domination on Danube, from its confluence with Sava River to the influx of the river in the Black Sea. In this context, the organization of the territories from The Lower Danube was receiving its final form. In these regions was organized a new military-administrative unit, Theme Paristrion or Paradunavon. The area’s high level of urbanization made the theme to be also known after its 3rd name, unique among the Byzantine military-administrative units, with which this one appears in the literarily sources, the one of the archonate of “the Paristrion cities (τῶν παριστρίων πόλεων)”, of “the cities from Istros (τὸν Ἴστρον πόλεω)” or “of the cities and territories from Istros (τὸν Ἴστρον πόλεων καὶ χωρίων)
