Summary/Abstract: The Mraconia monastery was also known as the Monastery in the Danube Valley or at Ogradena Veche, a nearby commune which, today, is lost in the waters of “Old Danubius”, on the occasion of the “Porțile de Fier I Hydropower Station” reservoir. The name “mraconia” originates from the Slavic word „mrac”, meaning hidden place, bush, dark, dark water, which also gives the name of “Hidden Monastery”, located in the vicinity of the Cazanele Dunării, which is deemed to be the most beautiful and most picturesque section of the Danube.
