Summary/Abstract: The argument presented in this paper attempts to awaken a discussion over competence viewed as a fundamental element of successful discourse. Since the image of both linguistic competence and communicative competence is somewhat narrowed being primarily focused on the knowledge of grammar, in the case of linguistic competence, and the ability to use this knowledge in the very act of communication (communicative competence), the present article tries to introduce a more developed image. As a result of the discussion, the model of creative communicative competence has been worked out and described in brief. The way in which the model is presented makes the reader aware of the network of competence related language elements which are involved in discourse, making it productive.
