Summary/Abstract: The perception of Iran in the eyes of the West has been colored by various prejudices and misjudgments. However, in her eye-opening lecture, Karen Armstrong seeks to reconcile such opinions by suggesting numerous similarities in spiritual habits and beliefs which are shared between Iranian people and the rest of the world. From the ancient times of Zoroaster to the Iranian Revolution, Armstrong examines the motifs that have perpetuated the spiritual behavior in Iran, and their further links to Western religions. Therefore, she notes that the ways in which people have sought refuge in religion, often when faced with tyranny, oppression and other forces of evil, are universal to all societies. Thus, the author indicates the dimension of social justice which was crucial in all three monotheisms, but yet interpreted so inaccurately throughout the centuries.
