Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The goal of this article is to introduce the idea and possible usage of crowdfunding as a process through which a society organizes itself around different projects. The article has been divided into chapters. In the first one, there has been given definitions, processes of financing and models of crowdfunding. In the second one, there has been presented chosen projects, as well as advantages and disadvantages of this process. Design/methodology/approach – The author has done a review of literature and analysis of crowdfunding platforms (altogether with chosen projects), that function in Poland and in the whole world. Findings – The success of internet portals promoting creative projects is a proof, that this model has been accepted by both financial markets and social consciousness. Crowdfunding as a platform of alternative financing has more advantages, than disadvantages. Originality/value – The article describes a new trend in business financing, in which social mobilization has a significant meaning. The author proves, that participating economy increases access to new discoveries and possibilities to transform them into new products and services.
