Summary/Abstract: Employees’ wages maybe formed in a different manner according to the pursued objective. Their level should motivate to work and increase its effectiveness. The article presents reflections concerning the relationships between the level and rate of unemployment and the GDP growth and the formation of the minimum wage in Poland in 2000–2015. More rapid growth of minimum and average wages in the Polish economy than of the inflation level contributed to the growth of real wages within the entire period under examination. GDP growth in Poland created conditions for creating new jobs and for the decline of unemployment. Growth of the minimum and average wages in the business enterprise sector did not generate additional unemployment. More rapid growth of minimum wages than of average wages in the business enterprise sector moved the level of minimum wage closer to the decent wage. However, a 42% share of the minimum wage in the average wage in 2015 is still a long way from the level of decent wage amounting to 60% of the average wage accepted in literature.
