Summary/Abstract: Fighting in the city can be lasting, destructive, diffuse and involves the consumption of huge resources for the parties involved in the conflict. Therefore, in order to achieve the economy of forces and resources, a good knowledge of the physical and cybernetic architecture of the city is required, along with a careful thinking of the location of the defense-related objectives in time of peace. They should respond both to the risk of natural disasters and those caused by human activity, while respecting international rules on sustainable and smart development. The changes within the tools and working methods of planners call into question the use of modern tools with special, useful, and very convenient potential, but which can also create vulnerabilities. In this respect, the spatial planning of defense objectives in urban settlements should start from the need to ensure city security, but also to be integrative, participatory, inclusive, creative and fair.
