Summary/Abstract: In the course of their work on the Upper Palaeolithic site of Pushkari I (Chernigov oblast, Ukraine) the authors came to a conclusion that several independent methods can be used to study the structure of the settlement. Each of them provides important information concerning the formation of the cultural layer. These methods include: 1. Study of macro-objects like dwellings, storage pits, concentrations of flints, etc.; 2. Statistical analysis of distribution of different categories of stone inventory; 3. Quantitative and qualitative analyses of micro-particles filling the layer. This paper is dedicated to methodology and main results of micro-filler analyses. Four areas of the site presumably associated with different kinds of activities were chosen for this study. Analysis has shown that all these areas contained different amounts of charcoal, bone, and flint particles, and the qualitative characteristics of the filler were different, too.
