Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the genesis, definition and types of greenwashing. The paper analyzes the factors favorable for greenwashing growing in the context of consumer behavior. The paper discusses the structure of “Greenwashing Index” and characterizes the types of enterprises from the point of view of the efforts for environment’s protection and the effectiveness of communications of these efforts. The mechanisms of control of the greenwashing phenomenon are also presented.
