Summary/Abstract: It is well known that the role of the interpreter in international contexts is strongly influencing the success of the diplomatic work. Starting from the certitude that communication includes not only verbal elements, but non-verbal features as well, it becomes evident that describing the non-verbal specificities of the act of interpreting in diplomatic context is increasing the quality and the impact of the interpreter’s work. The aim of this study is to precise the non-verbal features of interpreting in diplomatic settings. The research is based on a multidisciplinary literature review and on work experience in international environments as well. The diplomatic interpreter should be prepared as languages expert, but should acquire intercultural communication competencies and diplomatic competencies as well.
