Summary/Abstract: Social work, as a profession and a discipline supporting social justice, is closely related to the improvement of the terms social government and social well-being in historical process. Bauman puts morality to the base of his thoughts and defends social justice and social well-being as a reflection of a moral responsibility to the social area. Bauman brings up the question of “Am I the caretaker of my sibling?” into the agenda and states that economy centered political stance would conflict with morality since it makes cost-benefit calculation. He points that neither welfare state nor social work can find meaning in such a paradigm. In this study, the term social justice which is the base of social work is approached within the frame of Bauman’s perspective on the subject. In this context, the equality, solidarity, justice and right based approach themes are evaluated with in the scope of Bauman’s opinions. As a result, welfare state being taking the back seat, as Bauman underlines social well-being as human obligation similar to fundamentals of social work in today’s societies, is emphasized as a danger. Themes of prominence of consumer society and of individualized society are highlighted.
