Summary/Abstract: Promotional activities undertaken by communes constitute a significant element of marketing communication between the representatives of the government responsible for the development of the unit and various social groups and organisations. The research results presented in the article show what promotional activities and tools are used in their promotional work by rural communes from Lublin region and what resources are allocated for this purpose. Additionally, the location of competences concerning promotion in the organisational structure of communal offices and the range of the cooperation in this field with other units were examined. It may be concluded from the analysis that the people responsible for managing the units are becoming more and more aware of the significance of promotion for the achievement of the assumed aims.
