Summary/Abstract: Introduction. The aim of the study was to determine which personality traits exerted a positive and negative influence on students’ perception of their physical education (PE) teacher. Material and methods. The study included 1238 individuals (655 females and 583 males) at three levels of education, i.e. lower-secondary, upper-secondary and higher education. A diagnostic poll method and a questionnaire were applied in the study. Results. As for the positive features affecting the image of a PE teacher, being fair was the most expected trait pointed to by females. Upper-secondary school male students indicated a sense of humour, while the remaining groups again pointed to being fair. The negative trait which the participants of the study found to affect their perception of the teacher negatively, regardless of their sex and education, was bad-tamper. The level of one’s education significantly influenced the number of the analyzed virtues and vices affecting the image of the PE teacher. However, the respondents’ sex did not seem to be so relevant. Conclusions. The findings enable PE teachers to model their image depending on their students’ sex and the level of educational institution in which they are employed.
