Summary/Abstract: In the modern economy, life cycles of the product have been considerably shortened. This phenomenon is commonly associated with of consumerism, but the role of producers in planned obsolescence of the product is also acknowledged. The paper presents the results of primary research on the consumers’ perception of planned product obsolescence. The questionnaire surveys were conducted by computer assisted web interviews (CAWI). Results indicate a high level of familiarity with this phenomenon, ambiguous views on the nature of the phenomenon, and skeptical opinions regarding the possibilities of counteracting such practices among producers.
