Summary/Abstract: During the first three months after the liberation of the Częstochowa county by the Red Army the structures of the Polish Socialist Party were rebuilt. The finish of rebuilding the PSP in the Częstochowa county was expressed by the first city and county congress of the PSP which took place on 29th April 1945. The function of the temporary city and county president of the PSP was performed by Jan Kaźmierczak. The socialists from Częstochowa took up several important positions in the civil service ,eg. Bronisław Federak became the vice president of Częstochowa and Ferdynand Szmidla was the president of the Municipal National Council. Two parties competed for the influence in the working class community – Polish Workers’ Party and Polish Socialist Party and because of it there were some conflicts between these parties. One of them was antagonism which appeared when the communists lost the elections to the works councils. The arguments between the two parties were over in connection with the referendum and elections to the Legislative Sejm. Both parties cooperated with each other in the propaganda actions. After the communists won in the Legislative Sejm elections, they started the stage of getting control over the PSP. To do it they organised meetings for the activists of both parties, they got rid of those members of the PSP who were against the communists’ politics and Secret Service executed frequent arrests. The object of all those intimidating actions was to weaken the PSP and forcing the socialists to join the Polish Workers’ Party. The decision concerning it was made during the meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Polish Workers’ Party on 6th March 1948 and it was fulfilled in the middle of December 1948 during the Unification Congress when The Polish United Workers' Party was established.
