Summary/Abstract: Purpose – Determining the impact of non-cash transactions made with the use of debit cards on the level of economic growth in Poland, measured with a rate presenting the relation of value of transactions made with the use of cards to GDP per capita in particular quarters, from the fourth quarter of 2003 to third quarter of 2016. Design/methodology/approach – An econometric model created using the method of least squares. Findings – A research hypothesis assuming that non-cash payments made with the use of debit cards have positive impact on economic growth was positively verified. Empirical research showed that an increase in the number of non-cash transactions made with the use of debit card in Poland by 1% caused an increase in rate describing relation of value of non-cash transactions made with the use of the mentioned payment instrument to GDP per capita by 0,29% in the examined period, assuming that other factors remain unchanged. Whereas, an increase in the value of such transactions by 1% meant an increase of this rate by 0,28% in the same period and with ceteris paribus assumption. Originality/value – Applied research method enabled to measure the force and direction of the impact of the number and value of non-cash transactions on the rate taking GDP per capita into consideration.
