The Function of Providing Social Control Mechanism of Azerbaijan Proverbs

Summary/Abstract: The social order, harmony and prosperity in the social life depends on a system of values and norms born out of society and accepted by the majority, as well as common feelings and thoughts of individuals. The functioning of these values and norms system, which is under the roof of the social control mechanism, is based on authority. This mechanism, which is functional in the sense that the interaction between individuals is achieved in a harmonious and secure manner, contains some pattern behaviors, avoidances and prohibitions within it. In the article, the function of Azerbaijan proverbs in society is stressed by the sample texts. As a result of the evaluation, it is seemed that Azerbaijan proverbs foreground topics such as homeland and nation love, loyalty to the family, parents’ right, goodness, honesty, manhood, diligence, morality, honor, unity, solidarity, friendship, generosity, helpfulness, patience, staying away from lie, avoidance of cruelty and injustice and being intelligent and educated.
