Determining The Factors Affecting The Security Investment Decisions Hierarchically: Perspective Of Finance Academics

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the criteria determining investment attitudes of finance academics who had a considerable experience in finance and the ranking of those criteria. Pair comparison questionnaire which is constructed in order to find out the determining criteria is applied. The questionnaires are evaluated utilizing Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) which is one of the multi criteria decision making models (MCDM). The findings suggest that global conditions, conditions in the country, quality of stock market, quality of securities, and quality of brokerage houses are determining factors respectively. The results of a previous study that was conducted on finance students revealed hierarchical factors influencing investment decisions are found as quality of stock market, conditions in the country, quality of securities, quality of brokerage houses and global conditions respectively. When the results of the two similar studies are compared, it is observed there is a significant difference in the views of finance students and academics. The different views can be considered as a tool for revision of finance curriculum.
