Summary/Abstract: As an indispensable part of Anatolian women's marriage portion, the needlework is used to express the woman's ideas and feelings as well as being used to dress up. Traditionally and mostly, silk yarns is being used, so the main shape of this art is flower. Leafs, branchs etc. and the herbal elements come into different forms depending on regions and message that intended. Needlework is mostly being produced in, from west to the east of Anatolia, İzmir, Bursa, Balıkesir, Konya, Adana, Ordu, Rize, Maraş, Elazığ, and one of the most pelicular examples of needlework can be found in Ödemiş. However, changing and developing life conditions has started an alteration, like in other handcrafts, in needlework concept. This alteration mostly aims to usage. In the past, mostly as an adornment headwear of men and women, the needlework lost its function because of this alteration and now it's also been begun to produce for different uses purposes such as necklace, earring, bracelet, hairpiece and scarf by local women.
