Role of loan and guarantee funds in development of local and regional entrepreneurship

Summary/Abstract: The system of local and regional loan and guarantee funds, which is being created in Poland for the last several year, offers to entrepreneurs more and more capital, friendly procedures, knowledge of local economic conditions, individual attitude and professional service. Such offer provides SMEs with the wider range of alternative and adequate sources of external financing. Loan and guarantee funds became a natural element of SME financing system. The aim of the article is the evaluation of the funds as regional entrepreneurship stimulators. On the basis of analysis of primary features e.g. loan (guarantee) capital, number and value of loans (guarantees) granted, the performance of loan and guarantee funds in Poland in the years 2003–2007 was presented. Especially, the position of the West Pomeranian funds against the background of the entire national system was pointed.
