Summary/Abstract: The article presents SOM as an example of self-organizing neural network. The paper includes basic information about SOM: origin, structure, functioning and learning method (unsupervised and competitive learning). Furthermore, the author describes a verification process of self-organizing feature maps and Kohonen’s algorithm which is used for the SOM training.
