Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of a theoretical analysis oriented towards the study of new practices in the contemporary museum spaces. In the focus of the research is the open-air ethnographic museum Etura in the town of Gabrovo, Bulgaria, and the strategies of the governing and executive body in trying to answer to the new challenges of the contemporary popular culture. The fate of the “big ethnographic narrative about the cultural past of the Bulgarian nation” is discussed in the light of the phenomenological theory about people’s receptions of the world and the education, gained through the personal experience.
