Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to the problems of the contemporary memory of the situation of German autochthons in Silesia after 1945. The article also concerns the attitude of Polish residents of this area to its foreign heritage in the post-war period and now. On the example of the memoirs of the hero of the reportage, his biography and family tradition presented in Nowak’s book, a change of their attitude to the Silesian-Prussian past of the region is described. The point of departure in the article is the assumption that the construction of the memory narrative requires in this case not just the exchange of one national history for another, but the creation of a multi-layered regional metahistory, in which various versions of the past, including the alternative ones, can function side by side.
