HERPETOFAUNA OF MOUNTAIN OMIŠKA DINARA; CROATIA

Summary/Abstract: On several occasions during the period since 2009th to 2013th were carried out research of amphibians and reptiles fauna of wider area of mountain Omiska Dinara and recorded the presence of 21 species. Of this number; there were 6 species of amphibians (Salamandra salamandra Laurenti; 1768; Bombina variegata (Linnaeus; 1758); Bufo bufo (Linnaeus; 1758); Bufo viridis Laurenti; 1768; Pelophylax ridibundus (Pallas; 1771); Rana dalmatina Fitzinger in Bonaparte; 1838) and 26 species of reptiles (Emys orbicularis (Linnaeus; 1758); Pseudopus apodus (Pallas; 1775); Hemidactylus turcicus (Linnaeus; 1758); Algyroides nigropunctatus (Duméril & Bibron; 1839); Lacerta trilineata Bedriaga; 1866; Podarcis melisellensis (Braun; 1877); Podarcis siculus (Rafinesque; 1810); Elaphe quatuorlineata (Lacépède; 1789); Hierophis gemonensis (Laurenti; 1768); Platyceps najadum (Eichwald; 1831); Zamenis situla (Linnaeus; 1758); Natrix natrix (Linnaeus; 1758); Natrix tessellata (Laurenti; 1768); Malpolon insignitus (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire; 1827); Vipera ammodytes (Linnaeus; 1758)). Of the 21 species recorded four (4) of them are located in the Red Book of amphibians and reptiles of Croatia: Bombina variegata kolombatovici; Natrix tessellata and Zamenis situla in the category likely endangered species (DD) while Emys orbicularis is in the category Near Threatened species (NT). Species richness significantly contribute that the investigated area of Omiška Dinara includes water mass of the lower course of the river Cetina; which is an important habitat for species such as Emys orbicularis and Natrix tessellata.
