Summary/Abstract: The article presents the issue of medicalisation from a historical and theoretical perspective. In terms of the first, the author discusses two waves of medicalisation: the first, related to the medicalisation of deviations and the human condition in general; the second, involving the pathologization of the problems of everyday life and the creation of enhancement medicine. In terms of its theoretical aspects, the author introduces two radical critiques of medicalisation – Ivan Illich’s critique of iatrogenesis and Thomas Szasz’s criticism of psychiatry. He proposes that in terms of medicine today, we face the charm of the naturalization of the world of culture. Modern medicine is characterized as a medicine of control: spatially oriented on the body of society as a whole; temporally on the future.
