Summary/Abstract: „Ethos” means a habit, custom that generates a constant way of action, typical for a given group of people. This term can be used in relation to designated occupational groups, so it can be used in relation to teachers. The lack of a defined and functioning teachers’ ethos means that it there is small chance of teachers having a consistent influence on the attitudes and convictions of young people. It is difficult to speak of incarnating values professed by the teacher, if he (she) does not have a clearly defined educational ideal. Such an ideal defines the group of values that the teacher wishes to convey to his (her) pupils.
