Catechesis and the teaching of religion facing the problem of work and unemployment

Summary/Abstract: The changes taking place in the world of today, the development of new technologies and transformations in the structure of the economic system cause changes in employment, demand the raising of qualifications or their change. They also cause painful consequences for individuals and for communities. One of them is the fact and problem of unemployment. We can ask what tasks and what areas of action uncover themselves for catechesis in connection with this problem that touches so many people? The answer often will not concern concrete solutions, but shall point out certain directions of human and Christian formation that should take place in the course of catechesis. The reading of the indications of the Magisterium of the Church, engagement in human problems, defense of dignity, return of hope and such an involvement, that the weakest not be pushed to the margin – all of this can bring desired effects.
