Summary/Abstract: The article considers the problems of classification of settlements of 10th and 14th centuries on the territorie sof Upper Siret and Middle Dnister. Based on topographical location of settlements of studied territories they are divided into those located on promontories, on a ridge, on the edge of a natural obstacle, on the plain. Based on interconnection of plan construction of defense structures and topographical environment of location all fortified settlements of Bukovyna are divided into simple and complex. It is investigated that structures of defensive lines can be dismembered or solid.
