Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The aim of this paper is a preliminary analysis of the loan portfolio quality in Polish banking sector during the period 2009-2016. Design/Methodology/approach – This article presents the literature review on credit policy. Attention was paid to research papers in the field of credit risk measures. Theoretical issues were illustrated by descrip-tive statistics analysis for the sectoral data of Polish banks. Findings – The analysis showed that the sector, which is characterized by the highest share of NPLs re-lated to the total loan portfolio, is the non-financial sector. In that sector, enterprises have the lowest quality of loans. In the household sector in recent years, it has been observing an upward trend in NPLs of mortgages, with a simultaneous decline in consumer loans of low quality. Originality/value – Synthetic study of the loan portfolio quality in Polish banking sector in the post-crisis period
