Summary/Abstract: This article assumes that cooperation and competition promote the employees’ engagement. It presents that the development of employees’ engagement is connected with their needs (eg, membership, development, independence, recognition) and requires attention to factors relating to: work, relationships and organization. It shows how the workers’ needs could be satisfied by cooperation and competition. The article presents the results of the research. It was found that the two activities encourage the engage the employees. In view to the identified consequences the article concludes that though both activities are in favor of employees’ engagement taking into consideration their consequences their use should be combined and ensure that cooperation was not team work of individuals focused on achieving own goals.
