Evolutionary development of container vessels in the world

Summary/Abstract: The process of containerization which appeared in the middle of the XXth century developed revolutionarily and evolutionarily. The evolution in this way is strongly connected with the size of container vessels and terminals located all over the world. Both parameters are precisely related and influence each other. However, in view of complexity of the problem the author has concentrated in this paper mainly on the presentation evolution of size of container vessels. Moreover, the paper presents different types of vessels which may carry container-boxes and their division on different generations. Especially new cellular container vessels which have entered the market in the last decade made some problems for such a classification. At the end of the paper the market structure of container vessel and their further evolution have been presented.
