Summary/Abstract: The main thesis of the article is that logistics striving towards delivering to the present world economy their two basic functions: servicing and integration, causes an objective need to change the institutional forms of operations. The changes assure the fulfillment for logistic functions for supply chains. Conducting research of the reports provided by international institutes and organizations, specializing in 3PL market, the authors aimed to define the forms and scope for 3PL activities. There is a new role of the Third Party Logistic Provider (3PL) recognized on the market and named an orchestrator. The role has been defined and explained based on three social economic theories, transaction cost economics (TCE), resource-based theory (RBT), and network theory (NT). The current position of logistic providers has been created through the evolution of market, economy and evolution of relations among companies.
