Summary/Abstract: Inheriting an important traditionalist direction in Romanian literature, the prose centered on the rural universe written after the Second World War is nevertheless different in comparison with the ideological and formal models of the past. If in the fifties the prose of the rural world, under the sign of socialist realism, stands the influence of communist political mythology, putting the regional dimension aside, in the sixties, the novels present hidden hints of the kind. Starting from the models of Romanian prose belonging to the inter-war period the new rural novel of D. R. Popescu, F. Neagu, S. Titel and others builds up the image of the village as an archetypal universe in an innovative formula, similar to the South-American novel of mythical realism.
