Summary/Abstract: The right and freedom of choice belong to the values which are given by God to a man in order to accomplish the tasks necessary for their personal salvation. During the twentieth century – the time of totalitarian systems and postmodernism – Christian values were very often under severe attack. The problem of abortion became one of the most important moral dilemmas during that time. Since 1955, abortion has been a legal medical practice in Russia, and the procedure is financed from the patient’s health insurance policy. At the same time, abortion started being treated by women like something similar to a tooth extraction. As a result of this situation, abortion destroyed more human lives than all wars and natural disasters that happened in this country during the whole of the 20th century. This paper describes the fight of Russian Orthodox life defenders against the murder of innocent beings committed in the name of freedom of choice and the enforcement of mothers’ rights. Demographic and medical statistical data are also cited, showing the scale of the abortion problem in today’s Russia.
