Summary/Abstract: Понятия «центра» и «периферии» употребляются представителями многих наук приописании разнообразных явлений: географических, общественно–государственных,военных, исторических, политических, а также этнических и культурных. Особеннорезко вопрос центра и периферии вставал в отношениях православных и католиков.Центр – Рим в лице римского папы стремился к главенству в Церкви, а те, кто чув-ствовали себя периферией Рима, вели непрерывную борьбу за равенство с ним и не-подчинение его влиянию и сохранение своей религиозной идентичности. В настоящейстатье дается обзор главных полемических тенденций в ходе религиозных диспутовЗападного и Восточного христианства начиная с XII века кончая XIX столетием.The terms “center” and “periphery” are used by representatives of many sciences in describingdifferent phenomena: geographical, socio – political, military, historical, ethnical and cultural.The question of “center” and “periphery” has been specially manifested in the relationsbetween the Orthodox and the Catholics. Center – Rome – in the person of the Pope has aspiredto supremacy in the Church, while those who felt like being the periphery of Romewaged a constant struggle for equality. This is why the Orthodox tried to disobey the influenceof Rome and, consequently, to preserve their religious identity. This article providesan overview of the main trends in the polemical religious disputes of Western and EasternChristianity from the 12th century till the 19th.
