Summary/Abstract: The issues of populism in the authoritarian political leadership of Slobodan Milošević were decided to be the main topic of these considerations. In connection with the above, firstly, the definition of power and its most vital attributes, which made it possible to exercise the political leadership effectively, were defined. Secondly, the attention was paid to the nature of power, which was exercised by the Serbian leader Slobodan Milošević. Next, the nature of Serbian populism in the context of achieving nationalist political goals was discussed. The last issue of these considerations was the question of Slobodan Milošević’s participation in the process of breakup of the Yugoslav Federation. By performing political functions and defending the exercised by himself power, S. Milošević appealed to the Serbian nation making use of the populist situation, both in the sociotechnical and psychosocial aspects. Not without grounds, he used the instruments, which were supposed to guarantee this to him. The national myths (read: “Great Serbism”), stereotypes, Serbian tales and legends, carefully chosen key-words, make the sufficient evidence of appealing to the national emotions (acting on behalf of the nation). Being an advocate of the Serbian, “Great Serbism” national myth, involved in the accusations of genocide and ethnic cleansing, he was recognized as one of the guiltiest of the breakup of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia at the turn of the 21st century and in connection with it, he was brought to justice of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
