Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to outline the research programme concerning texts present in the urban space. There is no way in science to certify the existence of a text without the text recipient. In linguistics, however, (unlike in physics) the observer is not reduced to an abstractive collector of information. They always have a social role: a tourist relating to urban space texts is a recipient of particular interest for research. The language stereotype of tourist is available by analysis of publications such as guidebooks or phrasebooks for tourists. The analysis of two Polish basic dictionaries indicates that texts coming from urban space have not been taken into consideration neither in statistical nor in communicational usefulness analysis.
